“Entanglement”

30x44, chalk pastel on paper, 2025. In this piece, I experiment with the layering of color within dry drawing media, blurring the line between painting and drawing. Using myself as my subject, I use my body parts to create shapes and confuse the viewer’s sense of space. I push the body past a singular form, as occupying the body is much more complex than just what our physicality presents.

“Aile Birimi”

3ft by 1.5 ft, conte pencil on toned paper, 2024. Created in my junior drawing series class. Using a picture of my grandparents from the 70’s, I referenced renaissance family portraiture paintings. The large scale demands attention and hints to traditional depictions o royalty. I used this drawing as a gateway to learning more about my Turkish side of my family. Which for a long time has been a mystery.

Colored pencil on toned paper, 72inx96in. Created for my junior artistic anatomy class. In this piece I wanted to draw empowered women taking up large space. I asked my models to dress how they feel empowered and want to be drawn. They chose their own poses, and are among a flat background to put all the focus on themselves.

“I want you to take up space.”

Graphite, 3 by 4 feet. Created for my sophomore drawing class. In this piece I used myself as a model to depict the idea of the patriarchal woman. The woman has often been viewed as a container, a womb, as a receiver of violence. Through this piece, I depict this feeling of being trapped in the restrictions of womanhood.

“Girl”

“Brother”

Scratchboard, 2023. Created for my sophomore drawing class. In this piece I used scratchboard to articulate portraits of my older brother. I focused on form and expression. I used simple line on the clothing to keep emphasis on the portraits.

“Bug Birthday Party”

Colored pencil on paper, 2022. Created for my freshman illustration elective. When I was a child I had a bug themed birthday party. In this piece I wanted to reimagine this scene but with the bugs as my guests. As a child I always wanted to be one of the bugs, as I would dress as a bug for fun.
